Wildworks are excited to welcome our Design Assistant as part of the Weston Jerwood Creative Bursaries who will be working with us over the next 9 months.
Ica (they/he) is a trans performance designer/puppeteer who grew up in Nottingham and graduated from Nottingham Trent University in Theatre Design (2018). His love of performance and theatre-making directly sprouted from his first-hand experience of preconceptions about disability and gender, and now enjoys challenging these preconceptions and unifying people through creativity.
As well as TIE and Fringe shows, Ica has designed, made and performed for carnival and processions. Recently he has explored the intersectionality of gender, class and disability through an in-progress show called Off My Chest. He also launched The Isolation Collective with a fellow theatre designer during Lockdown; an online space for artists to “Survive and Thrive”. Their first project gave over 200 mixed-media-artists a platform to share work and connect with other artists. Ica is not a stranger to Wildworks, having spent a summer on placement with the show Wolf’s Child 2017, and is very excited to return and create more work with the team.
