We’re delighted to announce that Richie Smith has joined the Wildworks Board of Trustees, joining David Prior (Chair), Fran Branfield, Mikey Martins, James Chapman, Ellie Woolman, Amaya Jeyarajah Dent and Rebecca Whitman.
Richie’s roots run deep in the world of outdoor arts. Since the mid-1970s, he’s dedicated his career to bringing theatre to unexpected places, as a teacher, director, writer and performer. In 1980, he co-founded Desperate Men Theatre Company with the late Jon Beedell. Together they toured far and wide, creating unforgettable shows and collaborating on events large and small, always championing the ‘theatre’ in Street Theatre.
After 25 years with Desperate Men, Richie took a new path. In 2005, he re-trained to follow his passion for wildlife conservation, which eventually brought him to Cornwall in 2018 to work with the Penwith Landscape Partnership.
Richie brings with him not only a wealth of experience in performance and outdoor arts, but also a deep understanding of the natural world — a perfect match for Wildworks’ love of landscape and place. When he’s not supporting creative projects, you might find him behind a drum kit (with a particular fondness for cymbals) or crafting award-winning cider.
On joining the board, Richie says:
“I’m so looking forward to being on the Wildworks board as they forge onwards, creating original and exciting outdoor events for everyone. I hope my experience, both in performance and the natural world, will be a good fit with my fellow board members as we guide and advise the Wildworks team into the future.”
Welcome, Richie, we’re so glad to have you with us.
